bubbles puncture the calm surface water  
betraying the oxygen starved denizens beneath  
the air sparkles with dandelion wings  
and buzzing dragonfly lovers

the float is motionless, as if no force  
is strong enough to dislodge it  
no lake monster to fall victim to its guile  
it matters not at all -- I've caught what I needed
