some nights I wake up, staring at the ceiling  
no pills for me, no A.S.M.R. hums  
I start reciting poetry, with feeling  
until the shadows run, beaten by drums

it’s others’ work, alas, that I remember  
I haven’t yet penned something for the night  
but one does hope, some allpoetry member  
can recite mine, and not turn on the light
