mountain road a sleeping serpent  
prone between the jagged cliffs  
slumbering but unrepentant  
every hairpin brings its gifts  
of sharp, sudden gasps of terror  
but the wheels obey at last  
don't you dare commit an error  
future streams into the past  
does it ever widen, straighten  
in the moment, you're not sure  
but the serpent has awakened  
and will call you back for more
