Three young maidens of some skill  
knitting by the window sill  
"Well, if I was a tsarina",  
said the maiden that was thinner,  
"I would make a Christian feast  
for the world, from West to East".  
"And if I was a tsarina",  
said her sister, a bit meaner,  
"I would, sitting on the throne  
knit for everyone, alone".  
"If I could be a tsarina",  
said the last one, her demeanor  
calm: "I would give him a son,  
hero son if I'm the one".
