when life gives you tears  
and the wind dries them on your tired face  
and the salt burrows into your cheeks  
stripping them of their innocence  
remember your first dip in the ocean  
when the wave washed over your head  
and a moment of terror  
became a shriek of pure joy

taste that salt, it is life  
washing over you  
spring up and get a gulp  
of that iodine filled air  
and let the embers of sunlight  
playing on the waves  
into your heart
