Paradise may indeed be
beyond the event horizon
but is not beyond
our imaginations
few know
that throughout it all
Montmorency resented being a prop

That’s the thing about Black Holes.
Like opinions, everybody’s got them.
Every galaxy worth its salt, that is.
And this one, this one is a doozy,
its mass easily that of a thousand suns,
a staggering density tearing the fabric
of space itself apart.
Some say it might be a gateway to another universe.
Who knows, I certainly don't want to find out,
watching an unlucky crater scarred moon
or meteor scoot by with terrifying speed.
Meanwhile, I’m out here, in a safe orbit a light year out,
letting good old gravity and inertia swing me around this mad
carousel.
I’m watching the telescope gather dust – it’s black, you know --
nothing to see here. Maybe it’ll swallow a planet or a star,
one of these days, that’d be something.
I hear out by the Crab Nebula, someone saw a gas giant
get sucked in, rings and all, haven’t seen the holo yet.
It’s lonely out here, monitoring the good old cosmos
from my rocket.
But hey, beats watching Carl Sagan reruns.

He's been quite the same for a while
But his female friend
evolved in the end
Refusing the walk down the isle

was not drunk

Too late, he understood
that the maiden of iron in her rocking lockbox
was not some weird chick with a quaint chastity belt
that he could pick at will and have his way with,
but rather a device to secure
his full cooperation.
Being a superspy, he escaped unpenetrated
But shaken.
A shimmer of the alpine lake
reflects her alabaster down.
Her perfect neck, though, wears no crown;
an instinct tells her what’s at stake.
A moment, and she’s poised to fly.
Her angel wings respond in kind;
beat mightily, but from the blind
a shotgun intercepts the sky.
She struggles for a beat or two,
still climbing as if hope remains.
The effort coursing through her veins.
Soon she might make it out of view!
But then she falls, no more ballet;
no swan to grace the alpine lake.
Blood gushes out in a red spray
and forms new ripples for her wake
