A sonnet for your birthday? What conceit!
Are you a hero of some Shakespeare play?
To do the work and match iambic feet
the syllables just so, not come what may
a poet’s poet might invest the time
but I am just a hack who plays with words
though I might use it – time – to rhyme with crime
crime may not pay but brings its own rewards
well written sonnets, this one, not so much
must move you in some way, as Shakespeare would
and though it entertained, if just a touch
it’s not yet time to move to Hollywood
But having said that, do enjoy this writ
