An Apple a Day

‘twas an apple that seduced
our granddame in the garden
and mankind, having been reduced
to endless toil, no pardon

and it’s no secret that the orange
is called the apple sin
and Tell, while standing within bow range
an apple would have seen

but now the apple, wholesome, pure
it makes us think of teachers
and cherries, with their known allure
do frighten fervent preachers
