we're living in a brokedown palace
destroyed neither by hate nor malice
but by the turning of the clock
no key to wind those gears and lock
we watch it as it falls apart
reflecting it, with meager art
and searching for the key in vain
searching and struggling to explain
the one way road that points downhill
until it ends, and all is still
