He’s into dogs, but she of course, loves cats
He tried persuasion but it was in vain
They’re this, they’re that, they’re difficult to train
The conversations turning into spats
They went to shelters, puppy mills, alas
Her heart remained unmoved against all odds
He persevered, imploring the pet gods
Shepherds, chihuahuas, all gathered a “pass”
Forced to admit defeat, he still did flex
What limited authority he had
They got a pussycat -- it’s not so bad
And named it – well of course – they named it Rex
