Night's Mistress

The moon’s domain over Jurassic seas
(it’s orbit closer by some million miles)
was indisputable, but were its guiles,
the charms exerted by its sculpted frieze,
did those have audience? Did someone glance
at the behemoth high above and sigh,
and wonder if the mistress of the sky
demands the tides perform their daily dance?
The ruling titans and their giant needs --
did they enjoy the Moon’s hypnotic glow?
Or did it shine to merely light the blow,
a lantern for the night’s indecent deeds.
We can’t be certain, but since they did prowl
We hope they looked up at the moon to howl
