Acquainted with the ladies of the night
And teaching them about the “rain in Spain”
I’ve often wondered when they’ll see the light
The truth is, and it truly has been plain
The ladies could accomplish this mean feat
But mainly they're concerned with local rain
And who can blame those hose embellished feet
Atop stiletto heels, a naked thigh
The uniform of those who walk the street
“you want to party? No?” She says goodbye
And disappears into the velvet night
The moment passes, suddenly you’re shy
And I, “the rain in Spain”, such is my plight
Acquainted with the ladies of the night
Author notes: https://allpoetry.com/contest/2789356-Acquainted-With-the-Night--Parody- BY ROBERT FROST I have been one acquainted with the night. I have walked out in rain—and back in rain. I have outwalked the furthest city light. I have looked down the saddest city lane. I have passed by the watchman on his beat And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain. I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet When far away an interrupted cry Came over houses from another street, But not to call me back or say goodbye; And further still at an unearthly height, One luminary clock against the sky Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right. I have been one acquainted with the night.
