Sitting on adjacent park benches,
one juggles noisy babes with customers
the other tries to listen to the silence
then starts humming Aqualung

I just realized
why it's called a news cycle
spin, rinse and repeat

The choice of Pulp Fiction
as a team building exercise
backfired on the new franchisee
after one too many airings of
"I didn't go into Burger King"

They first meet in a quiet place
Away from strangers’ eyes
She’s looking for a change of pace
He hunts for higher highs
They hit it off at once, the pace
Is torrid at the start
She does not play too hard to chase
He takes that to his heart
As months go by, they do embrace
The spark seems gone, alas
She often thinks that he lacks grace
He thinks that she lacks class
And so at last, a louder place
Plenty of strangers’ eyes
They both agree: a change of pace
And leave without goodbyes

I praise the lonely paperclip
Magnificent invention
Quite recently, it used to keep
Things needing your attention
And I hear once, not long ago
This tale grows in the telling
An expert trader – saw the show!
Did trade it for a dwelling
But now, it’s lonely in a drawer
and looking for a suitor
no, we don’t need it anymore
since we use a computer

Your Armageddon nightmares
Hiroshima, Chernobyl
all because the nuclear force
is too weak
strange quarks, those physicists

The metaverse does bridle at its cage
Trapped in my head, it’s found a way at last
My pen no longer needing to recast
Thoughts come unbidden, skipping the white page
Images flow, some frightening, some plain
Objects appear, and hover in mid-air
I need do nothing, I can only stare
And struggle to observe and to contain
Contain creation, do imagine that
I look at the invaders in sheer awe
Surreal landscapes I could never draw
Materialize like rabbits in a hat
I blink and the illusion disappears
And I am back, and staring at the screen
Wish that I could forget it, sight unseen
Or at the least, could wipe away those tears

Eagerly bursting into a Scrabble party
wearing only sexy pajamas
Johnny was forced to acknowledge
Mary's invite, "come on over for some foreplay"
did sound odd at the time
