Poems

In truth I would prefer a simple hat.
The old wolf head's malodorous and foul,
but one must keep appearances, and that
is paramount, besides, they like my howl.

My warriors, oh how they loved my dad.
The old man led us true, through thick and thin,
but now it is my turn, and I am glad.
Who cares, for this I'll wear some ancient skin.

The battle axe? Now that's a different thing.
Who doesn't like to smash a helpless shield?
I live for war, the glory it will bring.
No, not for me the farming of a field

As winter's snow is covering the grass,
I hope the day is ours, if Freya grants,
and then I shall get drunk, not just one glass.
And next time, I shall surely wear some pants.

When I first saw you there,
all I could do is stare.

Your eyes beyond compare,
a dream so pure, so rare.

Now I'm beneath a star
catching light in a jar.

Floating above cloud nine
ever since you are mine.

When I first said there is no there, there,
all they could do is look at me and stare.

Your charts, they said, are gold, beyond compare,
a dream of clarity, insightful, that's so rare.

Now I'm the CEOs assistant, I'm a star
catching that lightning, lightning in a jar.

Floating on this here private jet, above cloud nine
ever since getting what is rightfully mine.

we are the multiverse
each mind reflecting
its own probabilistic existence
and though these reflections
do resonate on occasion
no Ministry of Truth can force them
to fully cohere

Thus whether you are entitled
to your own facts or not
is irrelevant, you do in fact have them

Slow shifts in these facts are possible,
but not really due to persuasion --
rather, through primate socialization
you absorb them from your surroundings
a slow osmosis of other people's facts

And that's the truth.

Of all the shepherds in the land –
The story has been told
There’s one whose days are never bland
Made from a different mold

The grass is greener where he walks
The sky a deeper blue
No dogs to steer and guide his flocks
they are a loyal crew

on mountain after mountain pass
they follow him about
where they’ve passed through, there is no grass
but soon enough, it’ll sprout

they fear no predator or thief
and I hear, my oh my
that when they hear JUMP from their chief
they simply ask: how high?

Define a happy medium”
My teacher said to me
I didn’t pause or hesitate:
My auntie, Ms. McGee

The classroom snickered and the teach
Did snort and lift his nose
And spoke with his accustomed screech
“And how do you propose

That Ms. McGee fits this request
In English or in Math?
Or will you, sir, if duly pressed
Admit you’re off the path?”

Oh not at all, I said with glee --
I do so love my boasts --
You see, my auntie, Ms. McGee
Communicates with ghosts

And though she’s often foul and rude
And curses as she smokes
You must observe her glowing mood
As she performs her hoax

The table shakes, the flames blow out
The patrons, do pay up
In consultations with her scout
It overflows, her cup

So yes I do stand by my words
A happy medium
And basking in her trade’s rewards
She fears no tedium
