try and try again
said the district attorney
double jeopardy
if I was a donut
I'd want to be eaten by Homer
imagine his want
his singular purpose in life
It's nice to be wanted
desired -- that's not a misnomer
he'll ditch the croissant
and love me as much as his wife

if it keeps growing
we shall definitely need
a bigger spaceship

like fallen angels
abandoning their host
they change their colors
and glide to the depths below
ready for hell to freeze over

some minds are like a proper English garden
neat decorous concepts, manicured and lush
and others are unkempt -- but if you'll pardon
their wildness does produce a better brush

I said to the bee
I love you honey bunny
it said: oh, bee hive

the latest reshoot
of the Rolling Stones classic
Get Out of my Cloud
goes horribly wrong
when ordering the life-sized set
I had a minor typo
The queen, the knights were little sweat
The elephant was hypo
but as it turns, there was an error
in how we spelled the "rook"
and we discovered it, in terror
when the whole building shook
the game of course did not proceed
the queen threw out some cake
the pawns made haste, with every speed
the king escaped, the rake
as for the bishops, should I say
they didn't do too well
although the rocs that came to play
said that the meal was swell

Do not let liars claim that night is day
Quiet acquiescence banishes the light
Rage as they might, the truth will find a way
Wise men and fools shall both attempt to sway
Resist, remember might does not make right
Do not let liars claim that night is day
Good men will twist and spin, a fine ballet
Insisting that your obstinance is spite
Rage as they might, the truth will find a way
Wild men will holler, leading you astray
No rescuers among them, no white knight
Do not let liars claim that night is day
Grave men, near death, will supplicate and pray
Be skeptical of those with second sight
Rage as they might, the truth will find a way
And you, my friend -- it is for you to weigh
The arguments, no prejudice or fright
Do not let liars claim that night is day
Rage as they might, the truth will find a way

some say the world will end in fire
some say in ice
while they fulfill every desire
and separate, higher and higher
for you -- no effort will suffice
they'll pat you on the back: "oh, great
but please do better, that'd be nice
and do not hate
that is a vice"
Author notes: wc 52 The prompt is the saying itself -- Winter Is Coming -- as well as the name of the series, The Song of Ice and Fire -- fitting right into Robert Frost's poem https://allpoetry.com/contest/2785850--Winter-is-Coming----Quotes-from-Game-of-Th and with apologies to Robert Frost https://allpoetry.com/poem/8469255-Fire-And-Ice-by-Robert-Frost
