Finally, he asks her out to dinner
“I’m a vegetarian” he says, just to see her reaction
A committed carnivore, she’s totally incapable of hiding her disgust
In her mind, she is already mourning their relationship.
He laughs out loud.
“Knock on wood, my last girlfriend was, and it just ruined everything!
I nearly had a breakdown over it."
Relieved, she laughs with him.
Later that evening, he nearly chokes on an olive pit.
Turns out she knows the Heimlich Maneuver
And the rest, as they say, is history.

The moon’s domain over Jurassic seas
(it’s orbit closer by some million miles)
was indisputable, but were its guiles,
the charms exerted by its sculpted frieze,
did those have audience? Did someone glance
at the behemoth high above and sigh,
and wonder if the mistress of the sky
demands the tides perform their daily dance?
The ruling titans and their giant needs --
did they enjoy the Moon’s hypnotic glow?
Or did it shine to merely light the blow,
a lantern for the night’s indecent deeds.
We can’t be certain, but since they did prowl
We hope they looked up at the moon to howl

He’s into dogs, but she of course, loves cats
He tried persuasion but it was in vain
They’re this, they’re that, they’re difficult to train
The conversations turning into spats

They went to shelters, puppy mills, alas
Her heart remained unmoved against all odds
He persevered, imploring the pet gods
Shepherds, chihuahuas, all gathered a “pass”

Forced to admit defeat, he still did flex
What limited authority he had
They got a pussycat -- it’s not so bad
And named it – well of course – they named it Rex
