an abandoned country road
through the camera lens
standing there her head unbowed
no sign of pretense
no desire to run or hide
Bonnie's waiting for her Clyde

the trouble with being a pirate
though I must say I do admire it
you must train your parrot
to have proper merit
and curse in a way that'll inspire it
the trouble with having a parrot
especially one you inherit
if it's previous owners
talked wenches and boners
and double entendres for carrot

a rose, champagne
"Propose!", the strain
it's hard to breathe
drop guard -- these teeth!
your queue -- my dress
"Will you..." -- "Yes, Yes!"

Who goes there? -- the man from Nantucket
I see. And what's that in your pocket?
That's surely a gun? --
Of those, I have none,
a plug that's in search of a socket
Author notes: https://allpoetry.com/contest/2787361-2021-Form-Poetry-Rounds---September thought it'd be fun to combine the two comedy tropes (i.e. is that a gun in your pocket and the cliché limerick)
permit me a point of dissent
for surely if all were content
with pots for their piss
obliging noblesse
then we'd all still live in a tent

Horror is it, that you’re craving? Surely you must know Wes Craven
Nightmares he has filmed aplenty, Freddy Krueger comes to mind
But of late it’s been Mike Myers – yes, the man never expires
Halloween has had its fires, fires that have not been kind
Plots that boggle, pause, rewinding…intricately intertwined
but Mike Myers pays no mind
And what of the Scream(ing) franchise? Craven made those too, and plot-wise
They’re uproarious and funny, but reviews trail far behind
Halloween – well, it has Jamie. Plot? it’s surely cockamamie
But reviewers have been gushing, gushing as if they are blind
Hollywood’s machine is grinding, and rewarding its own kind
And Mike Myers was a find

A twisted tale of time and space
Pray tell me, what is in that case
We only see its inner glow
Rewind, review it, blow by blow
the words embrace
The music score maintains its pace
The watch’s tale, with a straight face
each line a masterpiece of flow
And in the end of it we know
that Zed is dead
Here there’s no cutting to the chase
One hitman lives by finding grace
Another dies, his tale of woe
a bathroom tale – dies on the go
Perhaps I know what’s in the case
and Zed is dead

a lake, a breeze, the grove does beckon
she'll freeze it, only for a second
and store the longing that it stirred
this memory, however blurred
will come to her, oft uninvited
a smile, nostalgic, but delighted

I grab the seconds hand
its sharp edges cut my fingers
blood drops form but refuse to drop
waiting for time's permission
the clock groans
but time stands still

we used to rock around the clock
and now we mostly...roll
life is what happened, knock by knock
the years taking their toll
I found that there's an answer though
to deal with this age gap
and now I'm feeling young again
by listening to rap

imagine if every ROFL
on the Internet
was an actual roll on the floor
hands and legs flailing about
spasmodically
way to liven up those zoom calls
