Ear Loans

A gossip so juicy, it makes the ears glow
Delicious, delicious, now I’m in the know
But wait, if it’s just me, then where is the fun?
Perhaps I can tell one more person, just one?

Hello? Did you hear? Omg, you did not!
I thought it’s just me, only me who knew that
How did you find out? No! She knows of it too?
So that means… ugh, truly, so that’s the whole crew

The gossip, so fresh just a moment ago
Has lost all its novelty, all of its glow
Oh well, in that case, only one thing, my dear,
Do tell me your story, I’ll lend you my ear

Almost

So jealous of their bigger cousins
Gas giants guard their rocky moons
Quite often lording over dozens
Eclipsing sunny afternoons

Named as the fathers of creation
The giants revel in their might
Behave according to their station
Eating a comet, they delight

Concealing diamonds in their mantles
Rage prone until they’re disciplined
And then, their stellar lord dismantles
Their atmospheres with solar wind

With rings in tow, and always willing
The giants put up a good show
The star, though, it will get top billing
The others – they bask in its glow

Maximum Flexibility

Be flexible, my boss had said
And you will get a bonus
Work on the weekends, use your head
The deadline’s right upon us

Be flexible, my girlfriend said,
It’ll only be on weekends
You know we need to make some bread
I’ll party, but with your friends

Be flexible, my mother said
You look so great together
When are you getting newlywed
Don’t wait for stormy weather

Be flexible, my preacher said
And turn the other cheek
Besides, what will you do instead
You don’t want to look meek

I’ve listened to the great advice
They say: you’ve meant to irk us
But I was trying to be nice
Now working at the circus

Rain Goddess

Nine Muses to infuse what's merely prose
with qualities of poetry and art.
Nine goddesses committed to help those
who struggle for a chance to touch your heart.
They knew, the Greeks, they well knew that the Muse,
as overworked a goddess as can be,
shall do her outmost, tolerate abuse,
so those true wonders reach both you and me.
But in the list of Muses to behold
a gaping need, a sorely vacant gap.
In all the stories that the ancients told,
one Muse is absent, nowhere on the map.
On dark and stormy nights, she cries above.
Queen of the rain, Calandra, sends her love.

Wise Crack

now there’s a story to be told
if you can catch my drift
across both oceans and plateaus
you look, you’ll find a rift

some places you can barely tell
and others, ring of fire
volcanoes, islands, seas that swell
and magma their attire

but there’s a place where there’s a crack
that’ll swallow a whole car
beware, it’ll have you for a snack
it’s open, wide ajar

don’t make the news, be careful looking
when checking what the Earth is cooking
