Neighbors
It's been four years
since I showed up
an unannounced visitor.
Finally, they've welcomed me
into their house

He’s both in the hat – and is not
Our marvelous, Schrödinger’s Cat
To know it, just open a book
You can’t know till you take a look
Your children thought they’re equal, equal once
Now all that disappeared, your children must be told,
Strong, rich and capable, but fair to each?
As challenged as the Earth in Freedom, Law and Love,
A struggling experiment, helpless Mother,
Please! Please withstand the test of Time.
Author notes: The original America poem by Walt Whitman: Centre of equal daughters, equal sons, All, all alike endear’d, grown, ungrown, young or old, Strong, ample, fair, enduring, capable, rich, Perennial with the Earth, with Freedom, Law and Love, A grand, sane, towering, seated Mother, Chair’d in the adamant of Time. https://allpoetry.com/contest/2779805-Win--50-Walt-Whitman---write-a-poem-in-his-
They won't let you patent the time machine
It's considered prior art
But here are next week's lottery numbers

Bicycle races at home are no fun
I prefer a night at the opera
At least there it's not over
until the fat bottomed girl sings

Slight glimmer in the dirt catches his eye
Bending down, he lifts it.
A dusty, beaten up golden locket.
He clicks the mechanism.
Nothing.
Clicks again.
And memories rush out.

His effervescent words become the toast
of champagne poetry reading parties,
where impeccably dressed serious gentlemen
recite monotonous adjective lists
for the benefit of Gucci adorned ladies.
But they switched to prosecco.

My ego loves feasting on echoes:
“right, right, right” the echoes whisper and shout,
filling me up and making the plunging depths of
social network canyons seem almost friendly, but the shimmering, brightly colored canyon walls betray the presence of other egos
No matter, onward and upward
Where my ego is supreme

The contest mentioned vegans
And poetry for those
My entry brought up Vogons
In brevity style prose
For those that do not know it
A famous sci-fi tale
Does say a Vogon poet
Used verses in his jail
To torture kidnapped tourists
Thus in a certain sense
The esteemed contest jurist
Was right to take offense
Of course I didn’t mean it
In fact I was quite shocked
I wrote: "excuse my dumb wit!"
But found that I was blocked

In the depth of despair
First you ask God
When he doesn't answer
You offer the Devil
Faustian bargains
When the miracle occurs
You don't know who to thank
A cross in one corner
A pentagram in the other
A menorah for good measure
Thus satisfied, you proceed
Until the next bump in the road
At the voting booth
the bouncer asked me
for my voter ID
I gave him my poetic license
He chuckled and asked:
"have I ever heard of anything you've done?"
"Nope", I said. "But you will".
